Message from the organizers It is our pleasure to invite you to the 13th European Congress of Work and Organizational Psychology, which will be held in Stockholm on May 9-12, 2007 under the auspices of the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP). The congress is organized by the Swedish Psychological Association, in cooperation with the National Institute for Working Life and the Department of Psychology, Stockholm University. The theme of the congress is Sustainable Work: Promoting Human and Organizational Vitality. Our times are characterized by an intensification of work and an increasing rate of structural and organizational change. In this process, there is a need to draw attention to the fundamental contributions of human resources to the success and productivity of organizations. Organizational conditions that promote motivation, creativity, and competency as well as health and wellbeing need to be identified, as does the central role of human resources in strategic organizational planning. A further focus on healthy individuals in successful organizations and the encounter between scientifically based knowledge and practical experience is to serve as a dual objective for the congress. An international exchange of scientific and practical experience will help organizations to increase their potential for creativity and productivity. Such an exchange will also benefit individuals, whose personal resources, health, and occupational skills can grow and develop in interaction with the organizational setting. We are convinced that work and organizational psychology can provide the essential and necessary knowledge and competence that is needed for such a development, and we are determined to form a congress program reflecting this. Our aim is to offer a program of interest to scholars as well as practitioners, founded upon research results as well as evidence from the field. Our efforts should provide an excellent opportunity for participants to interact, by exchanging and debating new directions in the broad area of work and organizational psychology. We are delighted to welcome you to Stockholm, one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe. We believe that Stockholm is a place that offers all of the interests of a big city, while still maintaining the coziness of a small town. There are plenty of opportunities for shopping, more than 75 museums, and over 1000 restaurants. Public transportation runs smoothly and usually on time, and our Professional Congress Organizer is renowned for excellent presentations and experiences. Swedes are welcoming to visitors and most residents speak English.
