The theme for the Congress is Sustainable Work: Promoting Human and Organizational Vitality, and the aim is to stimulate the exchange of ideas and experiences between researchers, practitioners, and students of work and organizational psychology and its related fields. The chosen theme embraces issues that are central to contemporary work and organizational psychology, as we focus on increasing the understanding of the factors that stimulate organizational growth and effectiveness while at the same time provide stimulating work in a healthy environment for the individual.
In a time characterized by work intensification, an increased rate of structural and organizational change, and an ageing population in Europe, it is important to draw attention to the fundamental contributions that human resources make to the success and productivity of organizations. Organizational conditions that promote motivation, creativity, and competency as well as health and well-being need to be identified, as does the central role of human resources in strategic organizational planning. A focus on both healthy individuals within organizations as well as on the nexus between scientifically based knowledge and practical experience serves as the dual objective of the congress.
The Stockholm congress aims to provide further insight into the area of sustainable work, and it is our pleasure to announce that we have received a large number of interesting proposals related to issues that are central to work and organizational psychology. Accepted abstracts concern issues such as sustainable organizations and work practices, human resources management and leadership, employment relations and worker mobility, job stress and well-being, motivation and work attitudes, teams and work group processes, and the intersection between work and family domains (see the "Program structure" link for further information).
We are convinced that the Congress will be an important forum for the expression of new ideas, both theoretical and methodological, without disregarding the contribution of previous research. The subjects highlighted at the Congress reflect emerging as well as well-established topics, therefore contributing to a dialogue between the representatives for the old and the new.
Who Should Attend? The pursuit of sustainable organizations and healthy employees benefits from a cooperation between research and practice, and is also of vital importance for students in the field.
Researchers from a multitude of fields surrounding work and organizational psychology, with different theoretical and methodological backgrounds, are encouraged to participate in the conference. The intersection between different research traditions, as well as between research and practice, is a necessary condition for the development of new ideas and theories, and we are eager to encourage such an expansion of knowledge.
We are also eager to involve practitioners who can contribute with their views on what is needed and what is being done in working life, in order for the congress to be successful. Practitioners are encouraged to attend the conference and discuss with researchers, and there will be several presentations in which practitioners present their own work.
Students and junior researchers from a multitude of fields are invited to participate in the Congress. The encouragement of new researchers is an essential aspect of the EAWOP, which recognizes the importance of receiving early support from the scientific community. One source of such support is the exchange of ideas and feedback that takes place in a congress forum.
The final program for the congress is now available in pdf-format under the link Congress Program.
